How to use a Pendulum

July 25, 2024

My introduction to the pendulum. My mother came from a big family, there were 12 children, 7 girls and 5 boys. They lived on a farm and were a close-knit family. When the girls married and having their own children, they used to try and guess whether their sister or brothers wife was having a baby boy or girl. There were no scans in those days. So they used a sewing needle on a thread, and held it over the tummy of the mother-to-be and ask whether the baby was a boy or a girl. The needle would swing one way indicate a girl or another way for a boy. Mum said it was always correct.

If you're interested in divination tools, a pendulum is a simple yet powerful instrument you can use to gain insights and answers. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps of using a pendulum effectively, ensuring you can tap into its full potential.

What is a Pendulum?

A pendulum is a small, weighted object, often a crystal or metal, suspended on a chain or string. It's commonly used in spiritual practices to communicate with your subconscious mind or higher self, helping you gain clarity on various matters.

These include:

  • Gaining Clarity: Obtain straightforward answers to your questions.
  • Decision Making: Aid in making difficult choices.
  • Spiritual Connection: Enhance your connection with your higher self or spirit guides.
  • Healing: Identify energy blockages in your body.

How to Use a Pendulum

1. Choose Your Pendulum

Select a pendulum that resonates with you. You can find a range of pendulums on our online bookshop. Different materials like crystals, metals, and wood can offer varied energies.

2. Cleanse Your Pendulum

Before using your pendulum, it's essential to cleanse it to remove any unwanted energies. You can cleanse it by:

  • Holding it under running water.
  • Placing it in moonlight overnight.
  • Smudging it with sage.

3. Program Your Pendulum

This is how my pendulum works for me, in fact all the pendulums I have ever owned always worked like this:

I ask before every session to make sure my pendulum is communicating with me:

Show me my yes _ my pendulum will start to move then start moving in a clockwise direction.

Show me my no _ my pendulum will slow down and start moving widdershins _ or anti-clockwise.

Show me my maybe _ the movement will slow and start moving back and forth.

I then ask the pendulum Do I have permission to ask what I seek? I have never been denied permission, but it is polite to ask, and sometimes we just not meant to know.

I also thank the pendulum for its service when I have finished asking my questions.

How my pendulum communicates with me is personal to me, so follow these steps to find how your pendulum intends to work with you and its particular style of movement.

Programming your pendulum involves setting your intention and defining its directional responses. Hold the pendulum and state your intentions clearly. Ask it to show you:

  • Yes: Observe the direction it swings (e.g., back and forth.
  • No: Note the different direction (e.g., side to side).
  • Maybe: Recognize a unique movement (e.g., circular motion).

4. Establish Your Connection

Hold the pendulum chain between your thumb and forefinger, allowing the weighted end to dangle freely. Keep your elbow steady on a surface to avoid unnecessary movements.

5. Ask Clear Questions

Pose specific, simple questions that can be answered with "yes," "no," or "maybe." Ensure your mind is calm and focused to avoid influencing the pendulum's movement.

6. Interpret the Movements

Allow the pendulum to swing naturally in response to your questions. Interpret the direction based on your established signals.

7. Practice Regularly

Regular practice will improve your accuracy and strengthen your connection with the pendulum. Keep a journal to track your questions and the pendulum's responses for future reference.

Tips for Effective Pendulum Use

  • Environment: Use the pendulum in a quiet, undisturbed space.
  • Mindset: Maintain a neutral and open mindset to avoid biasing the results.
  • Frequency: Regular practice enhances proficiency and trust in the tool.
  • Questions: Start with simple questions before moving on to more complex inquiries.
